• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

picked up a g4 the other day, cant get it to connect to the computer no mater what i do. I have tried numerous cables, the driver from the site, changed settings in device manager. so on and so forth. when I plug it into the computer I do not get that connection sound however the g4 begins to charge no issue. wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and had a fix potentially. thanks.

Yes. I've had it happen. Once the USB port was bad, and it had to be sent in for repair or replacement. I don't recall now. More recently, I've effectively bricked one of my older G5s when programming, and had to revert to an older firmware version(2.02 back to 1.35) to get it to come back. In that case, the firmware update software would connect, but PPS would not.

I'd start simple though, and try another computer, and then another cable that you know works. Hopefully, it's just a bad or incorrect cable. I'm assuming, you're using a home computer and not a work computer where your IT department might have turned off your USB ports. Recently at work I was trying to use another radio brand's programming software and it wouldn't connect until I turned off some other network connection software.

I have older G5's from I guess about 2019. So far, they've been ok on 2.02. Did the bricking happen right away or was it something that came up later?

To the OP, yes try a known data cable or even another computer and see if that helps.

on another note the warranty is good until 27 on my unit however it was bought second hand, how do I go about getting it in for warranty work?
Reach out to Unication or a dealer. It might be worth buying a drop-in charger to reduce the use of the USB port, and might encourage a dealer to help you out if you have any issues with it being second hand. I highly recommend Ray's Pagers.

Recently, I suspect it's because I'm trying to cram too much, including about 9000 Subscriber IDs/aliases along with the huge number of trunked systems.

Just checking is the G4 powered up when connected? It has to be powered up for the PPS to connect, G4 will have PC connectedon the display. It will charge when powered off.

Yes it’s powered up, have a bad feeling usb on g4 is shot for data.

I agree with @jtwalker it is very likely the cable.

However, this is a windows computer you are using, correct? Have you tried another cable? Have you tried another USB port? Have you checked the "DEVICE MANAGER" to see if it is showing and then clicked on properties to ensure the proper driver is installed or if errors are showing? YES I know you said you installed it from the website, but have you checked?

Yes i have done everything you listed above, when i plug the g4 into the computer (and with several cables) the computer doesn't even see that anything was plugged in at all, replicated this with 3 different computers.
