To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've seen this happen when I let my G5 sit for awhile, and the battery is dead... I usually do a battery pull, and then recharge it. Doesn't seem to have any adverse effect. Clearly, the battery isn't "completely" dead...

The G5 is a replacement unit I just received from Unication. It was a new battery with about 1/2 charge. I believe the LED's came on as soon as I installed the battery with the pager off. Removing the battery is probably worth a try. Thanks for your help!

There are a couple of threads out there that describe how the G5 never completely shuts down, so I'm constantly recharging it after letting it sit. I mostly use my G3 for the system here in WVa. My G5 sits for long periods of time, but I'm saving it for my son who lives in AACo--whenever they get their new system online.

I removed and re-installed a fully charged battery. Also updated the firmware and PPS. No change. Still doing the same thing. When placed in the amplified charger base with the pager off, the charge LED is on and the other two go out, When the battery reaches a full charge, the charge LED turns green. You will definitely need a G4, G5, SDS100, or SDS200 for the new AA County P25 system. My SDS scanners work great with all of my local simulcast systems.

Is the G5 working with the LEDs constantly lit? Or not working at all with the LEDs lit? I'm pretty certain there was an LED bug that was fixed in a firmware update a few years ago. And you're getting this problem with V1.33?

I seem to recall the LEDs correspond--from left to right--Power; RX/Unread msg; Bluetooth... is it possible that you might need to change the settings in the PPS to get these LEDs to not remain lit?

In my case: I have my power LED set to flash every 30 secs instead of the standard 120 secs. I don't ever have any unread messages, so that second LED only lights during RX. Not certain about the third LED--will have to check the PPS on that one.

I can't imagine a reason you would want LED's to remain on with the pager off. Ray's Pager Sales is not sure why the 3 LED's would stay on.
Quite true. Got too bound up in why they were on--forgot they remained lit when off... Sounds like that G5 is going on a trip--sorry for your troubles.

I had the same issue with battery pull , cleaning the battery contacts on both the pager and the power amp resulting negative. My G5 was replaced by Unication for hardware failure.

Yes I have had that issue a few times. Usually I have that issue if I let my pager go dead. What I have found to be successful with troubleshooting is either pull the battery with the pager in the off position and let the battery sit out for about a minute or two and then put back in and leave the pager off and charge the battery from scratch to full charge. Otherwise I have had it go like that and put it into my cradle and it came back to life. I’m guessing all three LED lights on top must indicate completely dead battery

This was a replacement from Unication to replace another G5 which met an unfortunate demise. Pager has a brand new battery which originally had about half a charge. I fully charged the battery and it still has the problem. I have pulled the battery and replaced it a couple of minutes later with the same results. When placed in the amplified charger base, the other two lights go out. The charge light turns green with a full charge. The pager also reboots every time I turn it on.

Very rare for my G5 to reboot when powered on—it usually only reboots after firmware update or events like that. My G3 reboots every time I turn it on and I’ve been told that is normal. Sounds like your replacement G5 has an issue that needs to be addressed by the dealer.

My dealer also mentioned that experiencing 3 lights on may be an indication of dead battery , however the same issue persisted after a new battery Install. As mentioned before my issue was a failed processor Which resulted in Unication sending me a new unit .

Received another replacement pager today. Once programmed, the pager is working OK. No report what caused the problem. Vendor says pagers are just swapped out at the warranty facility and sent back to the factory. He never receives any report what was wrong.
