• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Tonight I wanted to "tweak up" some of my G5 programming and received a "No Device Connected" message.

I am using the original Unication cable. I re-booted the G5 and rebooted the PC. Same result.

I'm using V0.3.12.6 PPS.

Might I have a cable that has gone bad? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help!

WHAT is telling you no device? the PPS or Windows talking about the USB not being recognized? If it's the PPS you have to plug the pager into the USB, set up on the PROGRAM page and then TURN IT (*pager) ON till it shows "1" in the device above. Sometimes you must turn the pager off, then back on for the PPS to recognize the device to show (1) instead of (0)
If you're talking about Windows? then you might want to review the 10 steps in the "search" for RadioREF about Windows and unsigned drivers and how to turn off the protection for such drivers.

If you have more than one port on your pc try a different one. Oh yeah ^^^^^^^that too. Turn the pager on.

Win 7 / G4 here and this is how I get my set-up to "talk". Plug in USB to PC first, turn on radio (give a few secs to boot). Connect mini USB to radio. Open the G-Series PPS. Connected device shows as 1 every time.

Might be worth a shot.

What operating system are you using? Have you done any system updates recently? Turn the G5 on, plug the cable into the G5 and then the USB port. Make sure your speaker volume is on. Listen for the Windows device connection sound. Access Windows Device Manager and check the entries under "Ports (COM & LPT)" to see if Windows acknowledges the connection. If your computer does not recognize the connection, the problem lies with either the cable (doubtful unless your cat chewed it) or the driver. You can verify the operation of the USB port in question by plugging in a USB flash drive or another USB device. If the computer does recognize the connection, the problem lies elsewhere. Try cleaning out the micro USB connector on the G5 and the affected computer USB port with compressed air or a small brush.

The G5 does not show up under "Ports (COM & LPT)", but under "Network adapters", because it uses RNDIS (Virtual Ethernet over USB), not a virtual COM port.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but didn't seem right to start a new thread for the same/similar issue.

Mine is no longer showing up in the device manager as illustrated here. I've tried reinstalling the PPS as well as rebooting the pc, both with no luck. Any ideas on next step(s)?

Does it show up in if you enable "Show hidden devices" in the View menu? If so, maybe right-click it and select "Uninstall device", then re-run the PPS installer. It should reinstall the driver. Once it does that, you can quit the installer (don't need to actually install PPS again).

You could also try a different USB cable, and a different USB port.

Does windows make the "ooh, you just plugged something in" sound?

Well...........I FINALLY got to troubleshoot this. Looks like the drivers must have gone bad. I downloaded the driver and it connected fine. While I was at it, I updated the firmware and PPS (with no challenges at all) and am up and running with the updates.

Thanks to all for their help and input!
