• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I’m already in the process of contacting my dealer to send the pager back to Unication for service/replacement, but I’m just curious if anyone else has ever experienced this issue. My pager restarted shortly after I unplugged it from the computer, maybe 5 min after I programmed the file to it. Once it restarted, it remained on the reboot page with 3 loading dots, and freezes there. I tried the battery pull and the 3 reset keys several times but each time the pager reboots it stops at the 3 dot image. If anyone else ran into this issue, did you have any other ways of fixing it yourself to avoid having to send it back to Unication and losing it for an extended period of time?

What a shame, if I do have to send this pager back, after only having it since January.

Did you try programming a blank codeplug in or the orrig. codeplug that you saved when you first got the unit? Also I would try loading the firmware in. The latest is 1.31. Sometimes I had radios that were fixed this way. Not saying it will work but won't hurt anything at this point.

Can't program anything if you can't get the thing to boot!

Have you tried rebooting with it connected to a USB power source (with the battery in)?

yes, as noted in original post, I tried both the battery pull, and 3 button reset several times. No change.

ok

Bummer!
How about pulling the battery, turning the unit off, replace the battery.
Then connecting it to the PC PPS running and boot the pager.
If that doesn’t work, try this without the battery in place when connecting to the PC.
I’m just throwing ideas out here-

tried all. When connecting to the PC with no battery, the lights blink rapidly and it doesn’t appear there is enough power supplied to be able to power the unit. I also tried connecting to PC during bootup and the PC recognizes the pager but nothing else happens.

So the pc recognizes it as the pager-
Pro106import mentioned this earlier
Did you try the firmware update uitility?
I forgot the process so I can’t remember if the PPS needed to be runinng to be able to try it,

I did not try the firmware update, but I'm not sure it would work as the pager isn't even detected on PPS.

The firmware install is done through an external standalone program on your computer. As long as the computer sees the pager, I think it should work. It does not use the PPS.

The pager reacted to the firmware install program and took the firmware but does the same freeze upon reboot.
Also keep in mind that while seemingly unlikely, a failing battery could also be the culprit.
I also tried putting the pager into the amplified charger and it doesn't make a difference..

Even a new battery can go bad.

I guess we'll see what they find. I wanted the DMR upgrade anyway so I'm killing 2 birds with 1 stone by sending it back.. Doesn't seem like it's a common issue.

Last year I had mine stop like yours did after an update of TG’s. I took the battery out and left it out overnight. Put it back in the next morning and it boot cycled just fine.

Very odd. I tried the same thing and left the battery out overnight but it wouldn’t proceed past the boot cycle like before still.

Just wanted to update everyone. With the help of Unication I was able to get my pager rebooted again. (Downgrade firmware then back up to 1.31) My problem that caused the freezing is my files might be corrupted. My main one got to 5 megabytes in size, and continues to grow each time I adjust something *including* deleting groups and zones! It’s a work in progress to figure that issue out but Unication definitely helped me get back up and running.
