• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Been enjoying my G5 for several months. Suddenly, all I get is "OUT OF RANGE". To my knowledge, nothing has changed, all the control channels are same. I'm monitoring the North Carolina Viper system, in Western NC.

Thanks !!

Are you able to confirm the site is still up and running? If you're able to receive it with a scanner or SDR, and not with the G5, it could be due to the site failing to broadcast the band plan info, or there is an actual issue with the pager itself. Will it lock onto the site for a short time before going out of range?

May want to check, since there was a post on here a few months ago with the VIPER sites changing.

It will be in the North Carolina Forum.

If the site information did change it could cause the G5 not to lock onto a site.

Going forward you could program the site using wildcards to see if that will work.

A few years back, the site I was most interested in suddenly stopped broadcasting its band plan, It was quite frustrating since I frequently drove within 100' of it and the pager would lock onto every site except for that one. Whenever I was down lower in the valley and it was the only one available, the G5 would lock on for a few seconds before going out of range. My scanners never had any trouble during this time. Eventually, the radio techs got around to addressing the issue and I've have no more troubles with it. Perhaps it has something to do with the upgrades in NC as others have mentioned. If that is the case, you'll just have to wait.
