• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I apologize for anything here that has been asked. I've had my radio about a month Doing fine with most basic programs, but I still have some questions. Any help is appreciated.

1.) Bluetooth Operation. I see where it is and have tried to connect to a speaker and my car. Didn't seem to work. Does it have to be to a wireless headset only? Works fine with a wireless headset.

2.) When adding a P25 conventional frequency, it asks me for a talkgroup? How does this work? Does someone have a step-by step instruction for this? I've tried to piece it together from other RR posts bu I am still not getting this one?

4.) How can I make new wav files for the "programmed announcements?

5.) After programming two Phase II systems I can get the voice traffic, but only after enduring a piercing squealing sound at the beginning of each transmission? Any ideas on this?

Thank you

1. Bluetooth never worked well for me. Lots of 'call disconnected' in my car, with every transmission.

2. Use Talkgroup 1 and/or 65535 (decimal). #1 is the general talkgroup used, by default, for P25 conventional in most instances; 65535 is hexF7E or receive-all talkgroups.

Troymail is a G4/G5 expert user. I'll let him and others talk about your #3 and #4 questions.

I can't say what the "magic" is - I've gotten it to work on a few different headsets but not some other devices.

Every one I've programmed was with TG 1 (found that based on what a scanner was reporting for the TGID) but I suppose it could be something else.... I don't think I ever tried the wildcard (65535) but it's worth trying.

Try TextToWav

Do you have a tone alert set for those talkgroups? Set it to None.

Thank you for your response KG40jj. I put the recommended dummy talk group in and it’s still asking me for a talk group. I thing I need step-by-step instructions to see where I’m going wrong in PPS.

Thanks!

G5 Questions.

Thanks Troymail.

Guess I’ll keep trying on the Bluetooth.

I’ll try text to wav.

I’m still not getting the convention frequency thing to work. I’m talking about the screen where you select the frequency, go through everything else and then it’s asking for the talkgroup. Which was entered on the other screen where all the talkgroup are.

Thanks.

Make sure you've added the P25 Conventional protocol in tab D3 -- this gives you an additional column for conventional TGs in tab D4... add a TG 1 (conventional).

Then you can create a monitor mode knob in D5 and assign frequency, protocol, NAC, etc. -- the conventional talkgroups to choose from will be listed at the bottom of that panel.
