Try to keep the 30 foot ladder line as vertical as you can for maximum effect. The balun will mount on the transceiver side of the line and then your RG8U, into your transmatch (tuner).

There are commercial versions with 300ohm foam filled TV twinlead and if you can find the twinlead there very easy to make.

Have you looked at the ZS6BKW variant? It's a similar size but provides a good match on many bands from 40M on up, unlike its cousin.

The only reason for that parallel feed line is for impedance matching purposes. If you feel like making your own, you only have to use what you happen to have on hand and 'juggle' that parallel feed line's length a bit to make it work as well as any of them.

I've ran G5RV's a few times, with the ladder line both vertical and horizontal, for November Sweepstakes. One time I had to string it with the ladder line almost horizontal, I think the feedline would of been across a walk way or something. And it seemed to me that that antenna "played" better that year. May of just been conditions.
