• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was thinking of purchasing a Galaxy 959 CB/SSB radio for my pick-up. Does anyone here, have any first hand knowledge or experience with this radio. I read some reviews, but I thought I would check here.
I am looking for straight out of the box performance, and would most likely not modify the radio,
Does anyone know of a better mobile radio? Also, which are better antennae's?... FireStick, Wilson, or K-40. Thank-you, for any comments.

My preference is older cobra radios from the late 70s and 80s. Get a 148 GTL from that time.

I prefer Cobra as well, but

I have this same Galaxy radio, and it does very good. A little unstable on warm up for SSB, but after the warm up it is a great little radio, both transmit and receive. Am very satisfied with the out of the box experience.

It's a good radio. If you were to modify that galaxy then there are a lot of modifications to make it a sweet radio. Only modded correctly by the right experienced . Most stock cb radios will do 4-5 watts with ok sounding audio. In this day in time it is not enough.

I had a 959, worked great, but I had some work done on it, and it got lost in the postal system, now I have GALAXY 979, works great, but don't have it in the vehicle, cannot complain, I did peak/tune a bit, no complaints. Antenna I have a WILSON 1000 a flat swr, works great have 2 on the vehicles.

Oh, how I love those vintage radios. My first CB was a Hy-gain 1 mobile CB. I was only a kid, but I thought CB's were so cool. Thank-you, for your input.

Thank-you Brett,

Nice picture of the rig. Do you know anyone or could suggest anyone who is VERY qualified to do modifications?
