I was just in Gatlinburg this past week and saw a Gatlinburg Police car with three different antennas. There was a VHF, a UHF and an 800 MHz antenna mounted on the trunk of the car. I see that their dispatch is on UHF, so does anyone know what the VHF and 800 antennas are for? And if so, what frequencies/system are they using?

One possibility would be for the in-car camera's microphone. I've seen some VHF 1/4 waves used for that purpose in the past.

It's been about 5 or 6 years since I was in Gatlinburg, but I recall listening on a UHF frequency (460.XXX) to their PD. At the time, I could not find any listings, but I noticed the UHF antennas on the squad cars so, I put the scanner into a "search mode" to find them.

trashman, Is the 800 county system for MDTs/laptops? That would seem the most logical choice.

The main radio channel is on UHF. The in car camera/mic is on VHF. The laptops are on the 800. If you look at the patrol vehicles today there is a little bump on the top for the GPS/In Car Camera WiFi/Camera Mic. and a UHF antenna. Very few of the cruisers still have mobile data terminals. There is no VHF radios in the cruisers, the park service cruisers have both VHF and UHF in their cruisers and monitor Gatlinburg's channel and talk to them on the Gatlinburg PD channel for mutual aid and calls between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
