• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm new to DMR and especially the GD-77. That said I programmed a GD-77 and it's clear that the local repeaters are handshaking with the radio when I transmit and I can receive audio, but no one can hear my audio. Additionally with a hotspot the behavior is identical and I can tell no traffic is sent by the hotspot to the "network" in question (e.g. over the Internet when I'm transmitting on the GD-77). Notable is that I'm able to get audio via simplex 2m, thus the microphone is the GD-77 is functional.

I'm at a loss with what might be wrong. When I spoke to customer service they suggested the problem is likely hardware not software. A replacement radio is on it's way, but my gut tells me that I still must have something programmed wrong. I grabbed a code plug for another area (state) just to see what how that person setup their configuration. What I found didn't look different except for things that should be different (e.g. freq, color, time slot, etc).

Thoughts on what might cause the GD-77 to talk to a repeater, but voice doesn't make it through the repeater?

Since you can hear DMR audio, I'll assume that the talkgroup, timeslot and color code are correct - so long as you are not in 'promiscuous mode' with digital monitor on (the solid black speaker symbol on the top display line is shown if it is on).
I'd give the radio a factory reset, and load a very simple codeplug to test on DMR to confirm what is going on.

There is also a known DMR TX audio bug, but it only exists with a very specific set of circumstances:
Radioddity GD-77 VFO DMR transmit audio bug

Otherwise, customer service could well be right: hardware failure. I suspect the TX audio takes two different paths through the radio, depending on wether FM or DMR is selected.

Customer service recommended returning the radio. Given it was an Amazon purchase I wound up with two during the overlap. The faulty radio's audio on digital was incomprehensible. Very high packet error rate? That's my assumption. Perhaps due to low output power or a frequency offset. I didn't bother to hook it up to spectrum analyzer to measure either, just sending it back to Amazon.

That said I measured output power on the replacement GD-77 and it measured low enough that I shipped it back today.

Sigh...
