Is there a way to search the RRDB from a central zip code, or city location, with a radius parameter to include neighboring states and counties? I live in the nook of three states and a dozen counties. When I have an unknown frequency to look up, I have to search each state individually to try to find it. I'd love to just search all states and counties approx. 25 miles around my location at once.

The fcc has a tool. Don't know why they can't implement here, also.

unfortunately, you will need to know your coordinate location
I think he's asking about the RRDB, not the FCC database.

Note that you can select multiple states in the RRDB State Query Tool here:

On Mac OS X, holding down your command key while selecting states will allow you to choose multiple states to search. I forget the windows equiv.

Edit: For windows you hold down CTRL while selecting states. I'll take into consideration of what a defined geocode search would look like for the RRDB. But, note that we don't geocode individual frequencies, only subcategories and trunked system site/talkgroup categories so I'd have to look at the complexity of such queries and how they would be implemented. Thanks,.

There used to be a RR page w/ an FCC Callsign Proximity Search. I had a couple of shortcuts to particular lat/long searches on my phone. Tonight (Thu, 02-Jun-2022) I went to use one of my shortcuts & it only brought up the new RRDB v2.0 homepage. One of my shortcut URLs was:

https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?action=fccProx&lat=38.785201&lon=-89.904638&r=2.0

I had made the shortcuts as a quick way to return to the page, and then just changed the lat/long to wherever I wanted to search next. I used it very frequently, almost exclusively as it was a much better presentation than the FCC GenMenu Point-Radius search.

Has it just changed locations on the new site, or has it disappeared for good?

RRDB | FCC Data | Query (radioreference.com)
Bottom of page. Limited to 4 miles, though.

This may help the OP since it returns a line entry for every frequency. But that makes it noticeably slower, and it also seems to only return data from currently active licenses. The 4 mile limit didn't bother me too much since I usually searched the area immediately around a venue/location.

The former page listed Licensee, Callsign (as a link), Service (IG, PW, etc.), Status (A=Active, E=Expired, T=Terminated & C=Canceled) and Distance. Getting E, C & T status licenses was helpful as I could check those for extra freqs that might still be in use.

Maybe I can create you a feature to copy a link to the clipboard for this search.

However, I'm curious as your comment about it being "noticeably slower?" - What do you mean there?

Also, the new prox search still includes callsign as a link, in addition to service. We're just not returning canceled and terminated licenses anymore, but I see your use case and I'm digesting that further.

Being able to see canceled/expired/terminated licenses is useful, but I've always been in favor of being able to filter those out so they don't clutter up the active results. That's my preference db-wide wherever FCC licenses can be searched on, not just the proximity searches. 🤷‍♂️

The old search usually returned data w/in about 5 seconds or so. The new search took ~20 seconds on multiple searches given the same lat/long/radius input.

All I can do is ask for that feature, and I appreciate your consideration of it.

I just tried the Geographic search in the new RR environment and I had the exact same results as you did. It used to be instantaneous and now takes around 20 seconds.

I'm going to tag this thread with a request very similar to the OP's post. Is there a way to search the RRDB (not FCC database) to determine what frequencies will be populated when I type in a zip code/coordinates into my Uniden scanner using the "Full Database?" If not, may I suggest such a feature be added in a future update? Thanks
