I will be taking a vacation to Berlin, Germany amongst other states. My question is (I know the German Emergency Services are moving to TETRA which is digital and encrypted if I remember correctly). My question is... have they taken all the old analog networks out of service yet? If not. what can I monitor in analog? Also my raido is P25 digital capable. I doubt anything is P25 over there since TETRA fills the digtal role for most of Europe.

Thanks!!

It is illegal to monitor the emergency services networks in Germany, even it might be technically possible (in case of analog systems).

Be careful what you wish for , I was in Italy last May (12) I heard numerous US Military bases in P25 digital & ENC, Venice & in the South , so if there are US forces bases there there might be some listening, , Not sure of scanner law in Germany, I know in Italy it is ok, I heard lots in analog, in Greece, marine band, air etc, I heard French Navy do live fire exercises of France on VHF chan 72, cruise ships etc, , I found in Italy, same bands as in North America, vhf uhf et al, if you can bring scanner in you will hear native language , bring your own translator.

I spent some years in Germany, however it has been at least 5 since I have last used a scanner. This is before the digital age.
Found most of public safety in the 80 mhz and 150-170 range. I was using a modified PRO 34. Most of the time I was spending was in the State of Bavaria. I speak german so was not difficult to understand.
Heard PD, Fire and EMS in these ranges. Also picked up some taxi's and auto club activity.

In the City of Wuerzburg the US military Police were using 80 mhz also. They have since left (base closures) They had Motorola HT 1000 radios with the ultra long vhf low antennas.
German Public Safety were using TELEFUNKEN Portables.

Sorry I no longer have access to my formal list I kept many years back. Hard drive on the puter burned and I never made a paper copy.

Have have family in public safety over there and they tell me the radios have changed. They are digital and encrypted.

TETRA almost completed in Germany

German BOSNet core network completed - Tetra Today

The BOS core network is now available throughout Germany following the integration of the 62nd switch by Cassidian.

The switches connect the base stations in the BOS digital TETRA radio network, thereby ensuring the trans-regional flow of voice and data communications throughout the country.

In 2014, when the network is almost complete, it will be the world’s largest TETRA network. It is designed for up to 500,000 simultaneous users.
