• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Getting EID for 20/25 kHz Channel Bandwidth for CPS 16.0 (Build 823)

I acquired a motorola XPR-6550 UHF (403-470MHz) version, purchased a cable from Motorola XPR6550 Radio USB Programming Cable PMKN4012B, which came with the CPS software.

However, I need to get the EID for the 20/25 kHz channel bandwidth "upgrade" for this radio. Searching these forums and others it seems like this was free until a few years ago, and now it's just....completely unavailable! I don't mind paying for this, I'm trying to do this the "right" way.

I found some random retailers online selling this feature, like: Motorola HKVN4046 MOTOTRBO EID - 20/25 KHz Wideband License
No idea if this is legit or not. Has anyone acquired a key recently? If you bought one from a 3rd party, where did you get it? Any alternative recommendations for me to consider?

It is just $5 from Motorola. You will need CPS 2 in order to register and activate the EID number. The EID number is not model specific and you will be able to use it with any compatible model with the CPS 2.

I had thought I had seen many posts specifically recommending against CPS 2 for some reason, and instead recommending the version I have due to some problems when upgrading them.
I thought I had also read there was an issue with upgrade the XPR 6550 firmware (a pre-req for using CPS 2).
I am ignorant on this topic though.

You can buy a key from MSI all day long, but you can't activate it in CPS 16...been there, done that. You'll have to go into to stealth mode and search the internet for the CPS 16 hack, it's easy to find.

Think I found a solution...

If OP's firmware is too old, he won't be able to use CPS2.
If this is the route you choose, you'll need to make sure you have the latest firmware

Its the CPS that gets upgraded, not the radio.

Search cps16 wideband hex edit modification. Cps16 can’t communicate with the authentication servers to approve wideband anymore.
