Googlefu indicates that people are running Sentinel on Macs. I've tried several flavors of Wine but they don't work. Tried Crossover over the weekend which did successfully install Sentinel but Sentinel refuses to run, some sort of problem and I don't recall now what it is.

Looking for someone who has successfully installed and runs Sentinel on a MacBook Air, I need some guidance.

If all else fails I'll go the boot camp route but would like to avoid that if possible.

Thanks in advance.

I successfully run Sentinel on my MacBook Pro via VMware running Windows 10. Nice to not have to jump out of OS X to get into Windows. Allows copy and paste also. Definitely easy to use as long as you have the hd space for the vm partition.

The OP is looking for help running Sentinel on a Mac without having to purchase extra software.
I've seen here and there, someone successfully doing so, but involves lots of MacFu, something I had no time for, and decided to bite the bullet and get Parallels along with an old Windoze 7 disc I had laying around.

Check both Uniden software and computer aided and programming software on RR. You might come across that particular post where someone was able to get Wine to run Sentinel.

Parallels is $80. Which is easier, use boot camp and install Win 8 that I already have or purchase Parallels and run my Win 8 in that manner? Like gcopter1 I’m not into heavy Macfu, just looking for an easy way to run Sentinel.

I use Sentinel on a retired hp laptop at home but would rather have the option of the flyweight MBAir when traveling. Ideally my iPad would be best.

I run it on the last high spec 11" MacBook Air with Parallels. The same setup runs all my necessary windoz crap, radio, motorcycle and auto (car) tuning software. The only software that I have found to be a bit confusing is Freescan due to the windoz keyboard commands on a Mac keyboard.

Did that last night, searching the RR archives is pretty easy. Found a lot of what I have read in my own thread. Parallels and Fusion seem to be the easy way to do that, Wine seems to require a lot of finagling and dual boot works fine.

My Air is an early 2015 version, 1.6g CPU with 8g of memory and 120GB ssd hard drive. I have 54gb of memory free so I assume that would be sufficient to run Parallels/Sentinel?

I repurposed my older Mac Mini late 2012 model to run Windows 10 in Bootcamp. It actually runs Windows 10 better than it does High Sierra, but of course Windows 10 sucks IMO. Nevertheless, I use it to run the many, many, many, apps I need that have no Mac OS X versions. It works wonderfully. I have tried using Wine with WineBottler to make apps that will run directly on my MBP 2015, but it is always a PITA. Every time Apple updates their Mojave software there is a possibility that the Wine build of the app will stop working or will develop issues. Since I run a lot of photography post processing apps found only on Windows, and I have a lot of ham radios and scanners that require Windows apps to program, it is easier just to use Bootcamp and boot up into Windows 10 and not have to worry about it. The only drawback is those darn forced Windows updates that pop up continuously no matter how you try to prevent them. If you can run your apps without having an internet connection, then that works better as the updates cannot be loaded, but it is a PITA to deal with them. I also have an older Lenovo Yoga 2 11 laptop running Windows 10 I use on occasion, but updates are still an issue.

Eventually Apple will stop allowing 32 bit apps on Mac OS X. Since a lot of the older apps are no longer updated, that will be an issue. So Windows is going to be the best option for those older 32 bit apps.

Like many of the other commenters, I also run Windows using VMWare Fusion on my Macs. There is a free option called VirtualBox which is supposedly pretty easy to set up in it's latest version. If you have a Windows install CD, VirtualBox would be the thing to try if you have a limited budget.

I elected to stay with Windows 7 when I had issues with Micro$oft Update replacing my programming cable drivers (for both scanners and real radios) with drivers which M$ arbitrarily decided were better. The result was I was unable to program radios and had to go back to the office to reinstall the drivers. After that happened twice I figured out what was going on, and dropped Windows 10 like the proverbial hot potato.

All that being said, I have no problems at all running Sentinel in a virtual machine.

Did the deed tonight. Installed Parallels 14 and Win 10, sentinel runs like a champ and sees my sds100. Thanks to all for your suggestions.

As much as I despise Windows, it's the only game in town for Amateur radio and Scanner enthusiast software (at least for the ones that want simple).

I found out before I made the jump that Parallels 14 is a yearly license. I have Parallels 13 which is a permanent license, it was $35 from the Big River.

I found a little program on the net that will install the old Prolific drivers for Windows 10 and it supposedly makes it safe from the Windows updates. I guess we'll see....

I do it by running Win10 via Bootcamp. The process was surprisingly painless. I've never tried the other options so I can't compare but I don't need the ability to switch between OSs on the fly.
