I'm interested in scanner options (Close Call, Signal Stalker, etc.). This feature is very interesting to me, and I want to ask if there is a device that has only the ability to search the full range of the frequency or that it has greater sensitivity ( signal from a distant Close Call or Signal Stalker))? I'm very happy when I put in my car and I can listen to all the signals in my vicinity.

I have Uniden USC230e, OK, it's nice to hear, but if there's some much better that takes closer signals or a Scanner that just can detect it, can others catch far better ones close to the signals from my Uniden 230s??? Which antenna is best used for this? Should it be special, maybe on the roof of the house?

- Please, if you know more about this, let me know, teach me what is best to buy, or even my USC230e is good or bad !!!

Thanks from the heart!

In my experience, signal stalker is more sensitive than Close call. When I am using Signal stalker I often pick up repeaters, not just nearby transmissions from handhelds or mobile radios. With close call, I used to just hear just fairly nearby stuff, and a very high powered pager near me. I personally like closecall better though, it seems to get overloaded far less, at least between my Uniden BR330t, and Whistler WS1080.

My experience is the same that Signal Stalker is more sensitive. However, Close Call is faster. Signal Stalker scrolls through the bands while Close Call monitors all bands at once. So, it is really a toss up.

Both allow frequencies to be locked out or avoided which is great.

My experience is the same, but some of what is "more sensitive" is the picking up of frequencies other than the one that triggered the Signal Stalker hit.

Anyway, back to the original question - both manufacturers allow searching of the spectrum they cover. That will be the same sensitivity as the scanner (much better than Close Call or Signal Stalker).

BTW, my record on Close Call is a base transmitter about 15 miles away. While that is far from the norm, it shows what is possible with a clear band. This was in the wee hours of the morning when there were few blocking signals. I was also using an outside antenna. I think my record for a mobile is maybe a couple miles.

15 miles seemed a bit too far BUT !

i got a 5 mile hit in venice florida with a pro97 on my lap with the stock antenna in a jeep.
i was south of town on RT41 and the tower is 5 miles away on border rd and RT75.
on 162.4 and 1000 watts on a tower. this is flatland remember.
i wonder what an magmount would do ?
my 396T has to be about 1 mile away to get it.

Remember - I was using a base antenna and this was with very little activity in the band. I know it was the target because I got the same hit a few times that night.

There of course would be no comparison with a stock duck. (or even non-stock duck)

A mag mount would pick up farther but would also pick up more blocking signals. But it would overall have greater range potential then a duck.

I travel quite often and stay in hotels in various cities and while I research my intended destinations and load the appropriate databases into my scanners, I also rely on Close Call for those transmissions in my immediate area. (i.e., hotels) It is invaluable for hotel security and maintenance traffic as well as surrounding businesses and other traffic as well. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by what I hear :)

YES, I am very happy when I travel to various cities, on roads, to various hotels and I listen to the USC230e Close Call scanner.
- Very interesting things can be heard (Communications, Walkie Talkie, cordless telephones ... etc). So I want to ask which Scanner is best for these signals and not be too expensive. Or are all Scanners similar to these signals ???
Good this forum and very useful information for us. ;)

Which Radio Scanner has the best reception on the Signal Stalker?
Which best and furthest detects these signals! If possible, if you know a little older (analogue) that best showed up on these Signal-Stalker signals?
THANKS a lot, a lot!

For Analog, try the Uniden BR 330, TrunkTracker III. Probably available on E-Bay, since it is out of production.

Signal Stalker is a brand name, so your question is artificially limiting the slate. Only GRE/Whistler has Signal Stalker. It is about the same on all their models.

Best and farthest is also contradictory. Best could mean fastest which also is an answer of two different manufacturers.
