• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Well NY certainly had a bunch, but I didn't see any in Ft. Worth; there is one listed as Manhattan.
myGMRS.com - GMRS Repeater Directory

Since it sounds like you're local I'd turn on the scanner and keep an ear out on the standard repeater output and inputs to see what is active in your area, as GMRS is very sharing dependent and if a business in the area is already using a channel during the day you wouldn't want to interfere.

Amateur Radio Service is more geared toward the general chit chat, than GMRS; so that may be where the tag chewers already are.

I'm to far for all of those :( .... i'm in the forest hill section of fort worth, i wanna see what i can get my hands on in terms of GMRS acceptable repeaters, i'd like to run 1 out of my house, i have an old cable VHF/UHF TV antenna ontop of my house, so i am thinking of leaving the mast and disassembling the antenna and using the mount for a GMRS Antenna and opening a GMRS club around my area

Not to be negative on your plans, but I don't believe an antenna mounted on top of the house will have enough range to make a club feasible. It may work for local family coverage. To get any decent coverage at all on UHF freqs, you will need to have your antenna up at 100 feet, preferably 200 feet, or more plus good equipment that is tuned properly. A good duplexer is vital. Good luck on the project. Sid. KAE5442

I have to agree with WA4VBC - altitude is what you need for a successful repeater. Here in the North Georgia area, the North Georgia GMRS has space on old AT&T tower sites as well as a couple old forestry towers. Running a GMRS repeater isn't for the weak in pocket book - repeater cost, tower space, electrical - it can add up quick!

My area is primarily flat and im not looking to extend that far, the antenna would be elevated about 30', i am looking to cover a few neighboring streets, about a 2 mile area, im not looking to get 50 miles or anything, i figured that if i'd push the maximum GMRS ERP if allowed that i should be able to get good coverage in my area, we are in the midst of setting up 6 neighborhood associations and that is more-less what it would be used for, i went on an auction and was able to snag 15 Saber I's 458-490mhz, so a few of us are looking into a repeater

If you want to do it right, just be sure the radios you are buying are FCC certified/approved for GMRS use. Some, but not all commercial radios (FCC part-90) approved are approved for GMRS ( FCC part-95) use.

Skynet,
Your profile lists you in NY. I am guessing that you have moved to Ft.Worth. I am in FtWorth too and have information for you. I am easy to find in the QRZ.com directory and I will be at the Azle Hamfest tomorrow Sat. There may be more radios and even possible repeater for sale at the hamfest.

These are both Dallas REACT club repeaters. I can hear but not hit from west of Ft.Worth
Should be easy for you to hit from your location if you have an antenna above the roofline.
Dallas County REACT
GMRS 462.675 (+) 141.3
Call Sign: KAB4622
Location: Downtown Dallas
Notes: Team use, Channel 1

GMRS 462.600 (+) 141.3
Call Sign: KAB4622
Location: Downtown Dallas
Notes: Team use, Channel 3

This one is in Grapevine and I can usually hit it from West Ft.W also should be easy for you. You will need to ask permission from the Trustee Jay Urish or the owner Paul Allred for use.
N5ERS the Emergency Repeater System
462.700 Flower Mound *PL-unpublished* WQHL805
GMRS system reserved for CERT and family use
