Golden firefighters responded this morning to a report of a fire and furnace explosion at a business.
Firefighters were called to 501 McIntyre St. at 8:15 a.m., said Golden spokeswoman Sabrina D'Agosta.
D'Agosta said smoke was showing from the building and firefighters were looking for a possible fire in the building's "air filtering system."
There are no injuries.
Goltra Castings Co. Inc. runs a business at the address that uses a "forging furnace," D'Agosta said, and the furnace exploded.
The explosion resulted in metal shavings floating into an air system where they smoldered and burned, D'Agosta said.
According to an Environmental Protection Agency website, Goltra Castings uses or stores chemicals on the site, including phenol.
Phenol is a toxic chemical and short-term exposure to it in the air can cause respiratory irritation, headaches, and burning eyes, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.
A spokesperson for Goltra could not be reached for comment.
