Can anyone recommend a good iOS app that supports setting up "private" scanner feeds? Ideally I'm just looking for either a scanner app or just an audio app in general that will let you input the URLs of custom audio feeds and allow you to choose between them to listen when away from home? I did this years ago when I had an Android device, but none of the iOS scanner apps I've tried have this custom feed feature?

vlc media allows you to enter stream links.

Or you can stream through zello like most of us who do private streams

+1 for VLC based on your description of using URLs.

However...if you are starting over from scratch, I would switch to Zello.
The push to talk design of the app uses much less data and battery on mobile devices.

...as long as you don't mind everything being subjected to someone elses TOS/infratstructure/uptime/network/agreements, yes.

I have, and will always continue to stream my private stuff to me, via my VPN & Vlc.

Zello has great up time. As for TOS and anything else, simply make the room private and no one can report you for breaking any rules. Don’t name the room something someone will search.
I private stream Connecticut’s trunk system, CLMRN. But I don’t have it named near any of that.

Is it easy to do multiple feeds of different scanners from the same computer with Zello? In the past I had two scanners connected via ScannerCast and just picked the one I wanted to listen to in the app I used on my phone at the time.

I use the following IOS app (allows inputting of custom URL's):
911 Dispatch
Live Police, Fire and EMS

I'm not actually sure, but I can't see why not. Just need multiple SDRs/scanners; multiple instances of each program and mutiple zello programs open and I'm assuming you can do it. I've never had multiple private feeds at once because i only ever want to listen to 1 system because I'm away from home.

How are you guys finding battery drain while running Zello on mobile? I currently listen to my private streams just thru the mobile browser or Scanner Radio Pro (Android) but am considering a move to Zello.

Thanks!

I don’t notice any unusual drain using Zello. A lot really depends on the phone. Within the past six months I retired an iPhone SE that would last one day on battery. Got an I12 that will go 4-5 days.

Lots of audio =s more battery drain.

Zello is a great way of a private feed. I have 4 setup myself

If you have a feed that is ALWAYS going, it will be running so much in the background that it'll take a lot of battery after awhile.
I help people setup zello feeds for minimal feeding unless you just want to have it run for an archive type thing

Thanks for the info guys.... I applied to them for the free First Responders Zello @ Work license yesterday and was approved within just a few hours. I've got a feed up and running right now and it is indeed pretty slick. I'm struggling with leaving the simplicity of just using Scannercast and streaming with a browser but I do like that I can control access this way.
