I have an Antenna Specialist Mon-51 antenna with a magnet mount that works great on one of my cars but on a Corvette there is no metal to stick to. Is there another kind of mount I can use for this antenna maybe a trunk lid mount or will that ruin the hatch and interfere with the closing and opening?

A friend of mine has a Corvette, and he put an antenna on a spot on the frame at the rear of the car. It's pretty low to the ground amd inside the fiberglass body, but works surprisingly well. I refer to his car as "the radome".

No way I don't want to butcher the car. I was just thinking if a trunk lip mount on the AS Mon-51 would work since this antenna performs EXCELLENT.

i was kidding!!!!! Would not want you to massacre a beautiful car.

I will probably get pounded for this suggestion, but am going to offer it any way!
I think if it was my corvette, i would want to make the antenna as non conspicuous as possible..

First suggestion would be a through the glass mount antenna on the rear window.one
caveat though. Through the glass antennas are notorious for being poor both for ransmitting and receiving, but if you are mostly in a good reception area, i think the antenna would be a grat trade off as opposed to mounting the antenna on a lip mount aesthetically speaking while still doing better than you will with a duck on the scanner.

second suggestion, is what i have done on my vehicle, i have a 2/440 antenna mounted in a stake hole on my bed, but did not want to mount a scanner antenna outside. I purchased a mini 800mhz antenna with the tiny mag mount, (mag is about size of a quarter) and found that the upper should harness restraint would let me stick the mag mount there, and the antenna is vertical in the center of the rear window, out of the way, and pulls in station 20 miles away.

Both these ideas are stealthy and aesthetic, but by no means approach the reception you get with a high quality outside mount antenna, but also both of these methods can be tried for very little money so you don't have much to lose.................

thanks for the info, I'm not sure about the 2nd method setup cause I don't know where a magnet would stick. The first method was discussed before and a vendor here checked it out and told me that I would have to cut a hole and remove a piece window tint I have on the inside of window. With a window magnetic mount it would be the less conspicious but It wouldn't be too bad if the Mon-51 antenna was attached to the lip of hatch. (Trunk lip mount)? For now I'm using a Watson Supergainer antenna (inside) model W-881.
