To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So, as many know already, there was a link posted a few weeks back to a Moto document listing the GP300 models that can do 12.5 khz. Of the radios I have checked so far, about 2/3 of my GP300's are narrowband.

So I tried my hand at seeing about trying to program a GP300 to narrowband. And although it didn't work, it got a little interesting.
The only software I've ever used for the GP300 is HVN9852. Software version R05.00.00 dated 15-JUL-93.
The radio I tried programming is model P94YPC00C3AA. I never seen any screens that let me choose 25 or 12.5. There is a screen to adjust deviation, but it's a radio-wide setting, and I'm pretty sure that's not it.

So since it didn't work, I got on the 'net to find the latest version. Here's where it got interesting. From what I read, the software to program a GP300 is HVN9128, and the latest version is R08.02.00 11/96.
According to what I read, HVN9852 is for programming P110's. Like I said, I've programmed a hundred GP300's using HVN9852.

Anyways, has anyone been able to program narrowband into a GP300? If so, what software package are you using, and what is the version? I can save a whole lot of money if I can keep using some of my GP300's when narrowband is mandatory.

Thank you.

GP\GM300's were either wide band or narrow band. They are not wide/narrow switchable, they have different rf boards in them, so if the model # comes back narrow that's what it is unless someone converted it by changing filters on the rf board and adjusting deviation.

as Batwings21 said, your NB capable GPs are already in NB mode. i'm surprised you never noticed the difference in audio when talking from a WB to a NB model.

EDIT:

also the GP300 used the P110 software to program. the 9128 was for GP350s, though it may have also worked for GP300's. i have always used the 9110/GP300 software for programming/alignment and never had any issues.

Thanks for the help. I've always noticed differences in audio, but just figured it was the way someone was talking into, or distance from the mike. Until I seen that Moto document, I never knew that the GP300's could be two different deviations. I've always programmed newer radios to 12.5 khz.
