• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Okay, I feel like an idiot, purchased a VHF GP300 portable for a fellow firefighter here. In the process of programming, I failed to realize that the available frequencies are in the 400MHz range, where it needs to be around 130-160 MHz........ Do I need to purchase a new radio or is there something within the Radio OS I can change???? ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Yes, you need to purchase a new one. Changing bands would be too difficult and more cost than getting a proper range radio, if changing it could be done (hardware change, not software change).

and I'd look for a different radio something that is Narrow Band capable..Try looking for a P1225 they use a windows based CPS and they will do narrow band and uses the same accessories as the GP300, except the battery and programming cable.

The GP300 is a great radio, even today. The UHF version covers 438 to 470. The VHF version is 136 to 174 mHz.

There are other ranges in the GP300 model line.
403 - 430
465 - 490

They do not cover some of the new narrow band frequencies.
If we knew the frequencies you need, we can tell you if the radio will support them.

Go with this advise. A GP300 isn't narrowband capable. In other words, it will be of no use in a year and a half. If you are looking for a decent cheap handheld, look at the CP200 or CP200XLS.

Gp300

Hello, Appreciate any help you can give me as well.

Have some Gp300s VHF radios we use when riding in the woods. Want to know if they will be able to be reprogrammed to the new Narrow Band requirements.

We maining use the freq that came in them. It is 154.600

Can anyone tell me if this will be possible?

GP300's are not capable of narrowband.

Some gp300 came narrow band. Must check model number. They were either or you can't specify in programming.
