P25 Underground
After their old tech passed away last year, I've sort of been drafted to assist with radio matters for a local VFD. They moved to a Harris VHF P25 system a couple of years ago but maintain one of their old analog UHF sites for backup and controlling some flood sirens. It is colocated with another repeater used for our mining operations. During a recent storm, a lightning strike near the tower site tripped the breaker for both repeaters. The mine repeater came back to life no problem once power was restored, but something went wrong with the fire repeater. The display is showing some nonsense rather than the channel number, and it will not transmit. The repeater will not respond to button presses. The RX unit is fine. A Zetron phone patch is connected.
I suspect it's fried. I'd like to replace it with a Quantar and call it a day, but if the old repeater can be saved that's the call that department leadership is likely to make.
