Is any of the available programming software for the PSR-500 compatible with Mac? Or all windows only? I just bought a new scanner and am new to programming. Last time I had a scanner was when trunking was just getting a foothold and most places were still VHF/UHF. Thanks!

Okay thanks...also are there any real advantages to one brand of software or another? I guess I've only heard of Arc500 and Win500.

To be clear, the software mentioned does not run under Mac OS but it will run on a Mac that runs Windows. :)

I also heard somebody say that Win500 is nice because you can somehow go right into RR for programming help? Not sure if I understood right, but I'm familiar with the RR frequency database and that seems like it would be pretty easy to use. Do other software makers allow that?

You can get Win500 here:

Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197, PSR-310, PSR-410 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control

And here is a Guide to help with it's use:

WIN500 - UtahRadio

You have to be a Preimum Subscriber to import from the RR database though.

In fact ARC500 and PSREdit500 also have RR download capability. It's just the method of presentation and use that will change from package to package - try all 3, they all have a trial version...

and ARC500 also has a user guide in our wiki...

ARC500 User Guide - The RadioReference Wiki

Just tryin' to be balanced here...

best regards Mike

I just programmed a native Mac application to control PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, and PRO-197. I've only spent a day or two on it and at this point it is control-only. In other words, the window is just a picture of the scanner buttons which are clickable and there is a keyboard shortcut for each scanner button. It's nice to be able to control the scanners in a clean, native "Mac" way.
