Hello, all, I looked/searched for this, but didn't find anything...if I just missed something obvious, sorry in advance. :)

We were visiting the Indiana Dunes Lakeshore last weekend and greatly enjoyed monitoring the Coast Guard Channels. Does anyone know if that's streaming anywhere?

Thanks,

Funny you should ask.

I just put up a feed of some marine channels.

I have had the feed set up for a couple years for a local boating forum. I just put it on ScanAmerica yesterday. Marine Scanner

It covers southern Lake Huron to north east Lake Erie including Lake St. Clair. I am scanning Coast Guard channels including Coast Guard helicopter and Selfridge Air National Guard tower. Sarnia Coast Guard can also be heard. It also scans several other marine channels including Sarnia Traffic freighter control. Sarnia Traffic gets turned off when the Coast Guard stuff gets busy.

It also scans Macomb County and St. Clair County Marine Sheriff.

I originally set it up for local boaters so it does scan the recreational traffic as well. Coast Guard channel 23 is set as the priority channel so when the helicopter is up the scanner won't miss communications.

I am located at the northern most part of Lake St. Clair right on the water. I have an Antennacraft ST2 37' in the air. I can pick up the helicopter up to a 50 - 60 mile radius.

If you follow the information link on ScanAmerica's page you will find some recordings of some of the stuff from this year. Nothing too exciting yet but interesting.

Here is a list of what I'm scanning.

tcg, have you been catching any new activity in your area due to the increased activity of the Border Patrol?

I drove along the St. Clair river yesterday and there were quite a few of their vehicles in the area. I didn't have my scanner.

I don't hear much on the scanner I'm saving, ok trying to convince the wife, for a digital scanner and hopefully I will hear more. Everything except fire has gone digital around here.

I do have what I believe to be the border patrol helicopter 136.3750 and occasionally hear something there. Last week they were following a mini van on I-94.

We do have a big border patrol presence here. I wish I could monitor them.

Coast Guard can be heard on 23 and 83. Boaters will hail the Coast Guard on 16 when in distress. Channel 21 and 22 are other working channels the Coast Guard may use. All the channels listed get traffic.

156.8000 Marine Channel 16
157.1500 Marine Channel 23
157.1750 Marine Channel 83
157.0500 Marine Channel 21
157.1000 Marine Channel 22

Here are all the marine channels I monitor. A lot of them are recreational boaters 10, 11, 12, and 14 are freighter traffic. 82 is what Canadian Coast Guard will use.

I guess it depends on your antenna. I would think you should be able to hear Buffalo no matter what type of antenna you are using. You may only hear one side of the conversation though.

I am on Lake St Clair and can pick up Buffalo. I can't figure out if they have some kind of repeater. I can pick up the helicopter up to 60 miles away but usually 40 - 50.

I am using a AntennaCraft ST2 mounted outdoors 37' in the air.
