anyone know where i go to be tested for my grol? the fcc website?i know they teach the class for it at my local college but i have books from cie to study for it and would like to give it a try.

There are other national, regional and local examiners as well. I took my GROL exam through the NRE-W5YI group.

Actually closer to a BSEE than anything else and is accepted in lieu of one.
Back in the mid-80's the FCC converted all First Class & Second Class Ratelephone licenses that were renewable to a single GROL lifetime license. I sure miss my old "first phone" ticket lots of memories.
I liked what was printed on the reverse; a place for the owner or captain could insert the dates of service for a work history. There was a lot of Elkins Institute wonders with first phones that didn't know how to turn on a broadcast transmitters.

Employeers aren't as critical of the requirement as before, but it will still give you an edge.
