Grundig G1000A antenna

This is my first post, I hope I'm in the right forum ;)

I'm really green in this world of shortwave. I just purchased a Grundig G1000A (limited budget / starter world radio). I also have a WIFI PCI card in my PC that I recently stopped using. I have 2 questions;

1. Would the antenna on the WIFI PCI card bring in better reception that the stock one on the G1000A?
The only specs I have on the WIFI antenna is,
Transmit power: 15dBm
Sensitivity: -80dBm

If no;

Is there software out there that could use the internal WIFI PCI card as a SW/FM/AM radio receiver?

Thanks in advance for the answers!

Shortwave is -0- to 30 mHz. This requires an antenna 30' to 66' in most cases. A loop antenna is often used where a long wire cannot be run. The cheapest and best is a homemade Windom. Cut a wire 66' long. re-cut it at 24'X42' Insert a 4:1 balun transformer like goes on old TV's without the cable connector. Screw "F" connector into balun using RG-58 coax. Connect center to antenna connection on radio. One end of antenna should be eleviated and run as stright as possible. Google "antennas" and other simular terms. Good Luck.

Welcome to the wonderful world of shortwave. Grundig makes a very good radio, I hope you enjoy your new found hobby. As far as using the wifi card in your PC for a radio, you are out of luck. You can however buy computer controlled recievers like a icom pc-100,1000,1500 or even a winradio. To get the most fun out of shortwave, try to get one with ssb (single side band). I have been into shortwave for years and most of the fun has come from ssb reception and decoding things with my soundcard like wefax and the such. To stay cheap and have a good radio, I find the Kaito 1103 to be a very worthy radio and it is really cheap for the features.

Enjoy your new toy.

Thank you both for the suggestions.

LarrySC, I'd love to run an antenna like that, and probably will at some point. I was just curious if the antenna on my wireless PCI card was of better quality than the stock one on the G1000A.

corbintechboy, Only after 2 days and I'm finding I'm searching the airwaves like a crazed man ;) Found a couple of stations in the 'general' locations I'm after. My wife is from the Philippines and I was looking for a Pinoy station, no success yet. However, I tuned in a very clear Radio Thailand yesterday at 6PM PST @ 5.885 MHz.
I think within a year I'll be looking at the high-end portables :)
