• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

A while back I bought the Baofeng GT-3TP as an emergency backup radio to throw in my road bag in the RV, and I had planned to play around with it the 2 months I was up in Alaska and Canada, but good fishing and my other radios kept me occupied and I never got around to trying to program it or even thinking about it. So now that things are settled down and I am back home I would like to get this little radio programmed so that I can grab it and go if need be. Cleaning out the RV I looked in the road bag and forgot I even had it on the trip! Well I brought it in and fired up the programming software just to fiddle around with it and I am having a heck of a time trying to get the comp to connect with the transceiver. Just trying to establish a connection so I am just trying to write a power-on message to the radio and it just stalls forever indicating 'connecting to transceiver'...

Am I supposed to see the radio in my usb tray icons? It's not showing up as a drive, either. I am stumped. Ideas?

I have switched to CHIRP and still getting errors. Says drivers are current. Using usb cable that came w/radio. Installed drivers and it auto-assigned Port 8. Radio flashes, then error says it cannot communicate. I have tried everything, switched USB slots, rebooted both comp and radio. I go into the port information and it says this device is working properly. I hear connect and disconnect tones on my computer when I turn the radio off and on, but there is no icon telling me it's there, and it has not went thru a normal driver install busy icon like I usually see. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. I don't know what else to do. I have fresh towels and I am boiling water.

I know there is a resident Baofeng Master who dwells here in the forums. I am here with burnt offerings and cold beer (if you are close) calling your name....I fear a Chinese conspiracy and a Russian collusion. Something ain't right here.

What if I was in a ditch in the middle of a blizzard on the Great Divide?

Mercy, it's a $40 radio, fer cryin out loud! Help!

Who wants a free radio? Be outside my window in about 5 minutes ;)

I have the Baofeng GT-5TP and have the software coming. I'm now wondering how I'll get it programmed. I just manually enter the upper and lower frequency and use it as a dual watch UHF/VHF Police/Fire monitor. So we are both in this together. I'm too far away for you to toss me a beer! Ha Ha

TailGator911, were you ever successful in getting your GT-3TP programmed? I recently bought one and was having a heck of a time getting it programmed. I kept getting the "failed to communicate with radio" error message. After scouring the internetm as well as the miklor.com website, I finally found a solution that worked for me.

It involved doing some trimming on the programming cable just below where it plugs into the radio. The 'border' around that area sticks up a little more that on the uv-5r / uv-82 series radios, and thus the pins can't be inserted into the radio all the way. I'm at work right now and can't find the website that showed a couple of pictures of where to trim, but when I get home in the morning, I'll check my home pc's browser history and see if I can find it. Once I did the trimming, I had no issues getting the radio programmed.

Nope, I gave up on it. Hmm, I will look into what you suggested, it seems I have heard this before. Thanks for that!
