So I ordered a bunch of those milsurp fiberglass poles off ebay. If I put them all together I can make one megapole 48' tall. Something tells me I should guy that thing. Plan to put a guy ring @ 20' and 40'.
The question is: How far out from the base should I put the guy anchors? Is there an actual formula for that?
And then it looks like just use Pythagoras Theorem to find the guy rope lengths.

My pole is 37 feet high.
I have a guy ring at very top and then one about 10 feet lower.
I have 3 anchor points and they are all about 20 feet from the base.
I have a tripod that holds the base going 6 feet up, and three 60 pound sand bags on each foot.
It would take 100mph winds and an 8.0 earthquake to move it. :)

Yup, I'm not trying to find the length of the guy wire, just the distance to the anchor from the base of the mast.

That I could get behind. I wouldn't think it would need to be 100% of the height. But 75% seems to make sense.

This would be for a temp throw it in the back of the pickup pole anyway - I guess I can try it out and adjust as necessary.
