Not sure if anyone already posted this but Hancock County is getting a new combined communications center. As it is now calls get bounced around to different dispatchers wasting time. The new center will be run by a former Sheriff and will move all dispatch ops under one roof for the entire county and Greenfield. This will save time and money, hopefully it will also cut down on calls that never get dispatched as well. I have had this happen twice in two years where no one was ever sent out as the dispatcher "forgot" about the call :(

No, the paper online is a pay site ..... even for me and I have freelanced for them for 7 years :(

The original plan was to operate everything off the SafeT network, however due to coverage problems they are installing the old frequencies instead of getting the new system to work.

Update July 2 2007

This from the Daily Reporter states that Greenfield should approve the joint 911 Center on July 12th after overcoming three barriers. 1: short term funding has been decided, 2: the location of the project is now officially in the city of Greenfield, 3: the state approved the bonds to construct the 911 center.
Basically the city will continue to pay $300,000 a year for 8 years to pay saleries of 6 911 center dispatchers. The center will be on a 3.88 acre site at the corner of Tague and Franklin and was annexed into the city so that the city could supply utilities to the new center.
The $300,000 short term funding by the City of Greenfield is a bit of a contencious point with some as they feel Fortville and New Palestine should pay more as well. I guess someone forgot McCordsville and half of Cumberland are also in Hancock Co though.
