Hi all,

Im looking to buy a Us Alert Nova pager on my own very soon. Harford County is the only MD county that I know of that still uses the Nova's and not the classic Minitor Pagers ( although some people have them). I have very little knowledge on programming a Nova and I'm hoping someone else does. Of course I have my desired tone and frequency I found off the database, but I lack everything else as far as alerting address and what band (wide or narrow) Harford Co. is on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Harford County government purchased the USAlert Nova pagers in 2001 when there was a need to replace Minitor II pagers. At the time, Motorola was in flux as to which model of Minitor would be the mainstay replacement for the II. Novas were a VERY cheap alternative.

I would recommend NOT purchasing the Nova pager. It's very flimsy, not too loud, and not very known. If I were you, I would consider investing in a Motorola Minitor V (5) pager (new or used) or a Minitor IV (4) model used. You can look on ebay.

If you MUST have a Nova pager, the only place I know where to get them is Falcon Direct US Alert NOVA pager from Falcon Direct is efficient and affordable!  1.800.489.2611..

Harford County pages on 460.600mhz, and it's still wideband for know (AFAIK). If you purchase a MiniV, you'll be a step ahead when it's time to move to narrow-band, as that pager is narrow-band capable. Addressing depends on what you want to hear. You'll need your fire tone (A-B) and may want the ambulance tone (Long-B). There is also a county-wide all-call tone which is Long-C. Your company may have a duty crew tone as well. The MiniV is more than capable of handling all of these tone address combinations.

FWIW the USAlert Watchdog is a much better unit than the Nova. And plenty more affordable than the Minitor V. WatchDog
