Upon the advice of everyone here, I purchased an SDS100 from BC Warehouse. Given the expense, I pestered them with questions and they were kind enough to answer them all. Along with the scanner, I got a Remtronix antenna. This is only my second day with it, but I am already enjoying it immensely. From my home on the east side of La Porte near the bay, I can pick up as far south as Texas City, east to Chambers County, all of Houston, and most of Harris County. In fact, it picks up so much that I had to program a separate favorite list for just my city so that I can just scan local if I want.

Now I eyeballing some outdoor antennas.....

Thanks again for the input.

On your lists, remove the non simulcast tower sites and stick to the appropriate simulcast cells. The individual tower sites typically carry transient traffic while the simuls carry the "local" stuff. Removing these extra sites and nailing down the correct ones will greatly enhance your listening of the desired cities/agencies near you.

When I recently visited Houston, I made sure my SDS 100 was programmed with "Use site NAC." This made a huge difference from the last time I visited my old stomping grounds.
