Has anyone modded an hdtv dish mount to mount a vertical in place of it?

Feel free to move this post, I have a few unused Dish network & other mini hdtv dish antennas outside of my apartment and have thought about using the existing hardware to mount a 220/440 vertical. Has anyone experimented with the adjustable mounts to mount other antennas? I'm sure there has to be another use for all that hardware. :). Suggestions welcome, 73 n9zas

Yes, the satellite "J mount" will hold up a pretty good size antenna. The Directv Slimline version is 2"OD and with the normally supplied legs for tripod configuration it will hold up a lot of antenna like a Comet GP-9 or possibly larger.

thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what I'm going to use them for yet, since there are 3 with 2 not being used and even have the elevation adjustments and angle brackets. The only bad thing is they're on the porch roof, and not very high. 73, n9zas

I have two of them in use. 2" EMT conduit fits in them nicely to extend the mast. I have a 2m/440 vertical on one and a discone & small TV antenna on the other. They work great.

Thanks! Yeah I think a Diamond X50a would work great on a short mast using one of those mounts, only bad thing is they're all three very close together ... 73, n9zas

I concur..... I have a 10' EMT conduit mounted inside of the "J" stem from my old Direct TV dish mount.
It's a good fit too....

I use one to support an aluminum J-Pole antenna. It worked fine. I didn't try to add any extensions to it though.
