Background: I had an old D-104 kicking around and decided to write it up my Atlas 210-X. The radio wants a hi impedance mic. Before anyone suggests I am also wiring out Shure for it....lol

So, I take the D-104 completely part as someone had been in there and rewired it and it made no sense. I was surprised to find a Heil HC- 5 element there. So is that element Hi 0r lol impedance?
The net keeps showing the the 5.1 retrofit kit with a transformer ( to convert to Hi impedance ) and the element is round not rectangular. Different element.
i am going to re-wire the mic and if this element is low-Z then I will order in a transformer for it but I cant seem to find any concrete evidence on it. Just lots of flowers on how great it works. :)
Thanks

The HC-5 is a low impedance dynamic equivalent. Its not going to work very well on a high impedance input radio and they are designed for close talking. On a high impedance input radio the output voltage of the mic will be a bit low with maybe a slight boost in lows. The HC-5 has a big mid range peak with the lows rolled off some when used with the correct impedance radio. They sound great on some modern low impedance radios and so-so on others. That cartridge has not been made in many years and just the cartridge alone should fetch $50 on Ebay these days.

Thanks, PRCGUY to the rescue!
I guess I’ll re-purpose it to a modern radio. Ill use the ole Shure on the ATLAS. Shame though as I prefers he D-104 as for me its a proper microphone...
IIRC The transformer ( hi impedance conversion) however is available for the retro kit HC 5.1 so maybe it would work... Have to think about that.
In the meantime it’ll go on a modernist rig.
