Anyone have any idea why these helicopters have been flying around the Winchester / Strasburg area? There are 2 have them and have been doing this at night for a couple months. Thanks.

I'm guessing DEA and/or VA SP and/or National Guard looking for marijuana.

Id have to disagree. If marijuana extradition was the case they would not be flying at night to be able to spot the plants, and they would be doing this at the ENd of the summer when the plants are grown... theyre only seeds now...

Can someone ID the type of helo? Or at least number of rotor blades based on the sound? Thumping of a Huey or whirring like a Eurocopter?

Well, I'm not up on my pot life cycle. Obviously. :). Plus, I didn't catch the "at night" part.

We've been hearing them too. We live close to I81 right inside WV. A few times I heard medical helos on the scanner then heard them go over our house. I month or so ago I caught the DEA a few times on the scanner and they were right over us each time. There was also the search a few weeks ago outside Winchester for some idiot that they had MD helo assisting. Might be a combination of things.

I have been hearing these helicopters flying over Ashburn multiple times during the day in the past week or so, low enough to set off car alarms in my community. Yesterday and today I was finally able to spot them and I'm assuming they're leaving and returning to Dulles given their heading. Hard to see exactly but the lead heli appears to be a VH-3D Sea King with two tone paint similar to Marine One, the following heli is a Chinook. Today I did pick up some talk on the LCSO motors channel about a motorcade within the same time frame but my Dulles reception is pretty poor so I couldn't make out anything from the towers.

What you've been seeing is the transport of the G8s attendees to and from Camp David.
They are HMX-1 VH-3D and CH-46 likely from another unit.

The Japanese and Russians are returning to Dulles via motorcade. A VSP helo is following the motorcades.

1945- The German delegation is inbound to Dulles right now. VH-3D and VH-46, I had only seen the CHs until now.

Helicopters are still flying over western loudoun both day and night. heard 2 fly over in the middle of the day and just saw 2 flying over at a little past 10pm flying west over Purcellville. They appeared to be not very much above the tree tops. Seemed strange that they were flying so low. Does anyone have any idea what these flights are about?

Those were probably the regular USAF Hueys heading to Mount Weather. They're at normal helo altitude, 800-1000ft.
