I'm guessing I may need a USB cable, but I'm getting a weird error message when I connect my 396 to my laptop to program it. The Uniden software tells me that "the scanner is not supported." I've experienced the same problem with the firmware updater as well. It worked just about a month ago, so it's a new problem.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks in advance.

My Thinkpad had the same error. I had to re-start the ARC 246T software and it worked fine ever since. The ARC 396 software did the same thing once, but again I re-started the ARC software and its fine. Never seen that error since??!! I don't use the Uniden software so I'm not familiar with it but I'm sure some other people in here would be familiar but since I have had the same error as you, I would venture to say it isn't the type of software. More like a communication error regarding the computer port. Good luck!!!!

Check to make sure the com port hasn't changed, thats always the first thing to check.
Second make sure you have the correct scanner selected, helped someone locally yesterday who had the wrong scanner selected, changed it and it worked fine.

Fixed.

Fixed it after trying different USB ports and playing with the Com Port selection on the UASD software...
