• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Guys I'm building a portable GMRS Repeater using (2) Portable (Battery operated) UHF Radios not mobile radios. I'm using the ID-O-MATIC II as my repeater controller, but to make it work I need a COR or COS output from my Radio Receiver to activate the ID-O-MATIC.

I'm using a Maxon SP120 UHF as a Receiver and a Motorola HT1000 as the Trasnmitter with a 20w Duplexer and the ID-O-MATIC and the repeater controller.

The ID-O-MATIC will activate once it sees a voltage input of 3.5v or more on the COR input, since my handheld radio in this case doesn't have a COR/COS output, can I use the Voltage signal from the radio status LED? I'm using a Maxon SP120 as my Receiver, the LED is off while in standby, but it turns orange once is receiving a signal, I was planning on checking the voltage on that LED to see if I can get a 3.5v reading while the radio is receiving and that way activate my ID-O-MATIC.

Will this work?

Should work although most HT LEDs turn on whether the correct PL is decoded or not. You may have to trace the lead from the LED back to the board where a transistor switch is pulling one of the legs to ground. It might be better if you could find a schematic on the Maxon. Look for the squelch switch circuit that turns on the audio.

I just tested the LED output and it works, but I didnt tested with a PL code tough, will try that and check.

Ok I found the manual for the SP120, right now the repeater activates when the LED is orange, for my luck orange is ANY transmition on that frequency with or without code. But the manual says the the LED will go GREEN when is receiving the correct code only, the test point for the green LED is by the one I soldered so I have no problem fixing the problem.

I have (3) Maxon UHF SP120 radios that I will use as a receiver and (3) HT1000 that I will use as Transmitters, the plan is to make (3) portable repeaters.

Darn it, I have the software/cable for the Maxon radio but Im unable to program it because I really need a slow computer, I have 3 HT1000 radios that I can program for this project but I dont know where to find the COR output or any output that will activate the ID O MATIC.
