Trying to load my BC245XLT using Unidens software program E-Scanner 2.0 and am having problems adapting to this program.

My scanner is connected and configured correctly but how does one actually load the frequencies into E-Scanner ( I previously had many loaded manually but wish to greatly expand the list so I cleared the entire system)?

Do I use a text (notepad) file?

How do I arrange that in a format ready to load, copy & paste each frequency for the city/area I wish to cover?

Can I somehow load directly or indirectly from the RRDatabase?

Advise and steps from someone familiar with this program would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, the Senss software is quite good...here's a review I wrote on it...

http://www.strongsignals.net/access/feature/review_011.html

Another piece of freeware that's very good is Control Freq Jr, which accepts data in a variety of formats, including the industry-standard csv format...

http://www.freqofnature.com/software/controlfreqjr/index.html

If you do download this software, make sure you get both the entire program *and* the patch file that goes along with it...here's a review of the software...

http://strongsignals.net/access/feature/review_004.html

But I think the one that deserves the most attention is Scan Control; what's nice about this program is that it provides an easy upgrade path should you decide to get one of the other Uniden models...the URL is:

http://www.scannersoft.com/

The review I wrote is on the Lite (programming only) version (which can be upgraded very easily). It's not all that expensive, either...

http://www.strongsignals.net/access/feature/review_014.html

Scan Control has upgraded significantly since I wrote that review, but it's still mostly valid.

There's nothing I know of that would directly load data from the RRDB (al a the import feature on Win96, or Webcatcher from Butel). If I were just starting off, and wanted something free on the fly just to get started, Control Freq Jr. might be my choice if all I was interested in was programming.

But why type in data at all? I don't know where you are - city/state will do nicely - but there are numerous Yahoo based scanning reflectors for many areas in the country. Someone on such a list might well have a data file for your area you can, at least, get you started. You might also try putting out a request on the forum for your state here on this site.

I am in Grove City, PA.

It also appears like I am scanner deficient here. Software is not typically a problem for me but I am missing some steps or the like.

Diggin into the original box I found I had two cd's I bought long ago.

They are 2000 editions of "Scanner programming System" version 1.o from scannerstuff.com and "Ham Radio 2000".

They have frequency files but may be outdated.

What is your opinion of these people that, for a small fee program and load frequencies for you?

I am looking for a few counties in Western PA plus PA and Ohio State police patrols. (this thing save my bacon once during a snow storm along I-80)

I think its a waste of your money since you can do it yourself by hand or software.

Since the OSHP is moving over to MARCS your BC245 will not do you any good.

Not a problem with Ohio. Its rare when I go over there.

Looks like I will need to get one of these software programs tackled else return to the manual programming.

In the meantime I'll try to find a data file on these PA frequencies. I was on a yahoo forum a while back. Maybe I'll see who is still there!

Appreciate your help though!

Since you mentioned Western Pa, here's a group devoted to it:

Will try them thanks!

Didn't get a clear answer on this question: Say I found all the frequencies I need. How then to I format them to upload into a software program? Do I create a master data file into a particular form, such as in notepad then just import that into a program?

That is one way, yes. The *full* version of Scan Control supports direct import of a csv (comma seperated value) file via a very powerful tool. Another way would be to create an Excel spreadsheet and simply copy/paste into the form. It totally depends on the program you select.
One thing I have done in the past is to capture a whole html page (such as that found on the RRDB), then import it into a program called Notetab Pro, convert it to a .csv file which I import directly into Scan Control It's a bit of work, but very reliable.
