• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Goodmorning All,

I recently purchased a Motorola Spectra 110w vhf high band radio. The unit is designed to be a trunk mount I believe. I was hoping to get any information I could as well as what programming cable was needed, as i know they are different depending on the model or head? of the spectra. The model number is T83GXA7HA4AK. I've included a couple pictures of the unit in hopes that they will help you more than me. Also to avoid all the responses regarding Motorola programming software, I KNOW IT REQUIRES AN AGREEMENT! I am not looking for the software, my buddy is licensed to have the software, its just that neither one of us are familiar with the spectra models. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Looks like you will need a high power cable.

Don't forget the RIB, unless you buy a more expensive ribless cable.

Good luck.

What I would do before ANYTHING, is to make sure that radio is / or get it recapped as soon as possible. These spectra's have a known issue with leaky caps (which in turn can cause a TON of problems including lower volume, dim display, power up issues, a "pop" in audio etc. etc. ).

Besides that, you are still missing the power cables, the speaker/cable, etc. (Your radio is in fact a remote mount unit with an A4 head).

If you are having it installed in a vehicle, I highly recommend taking it to someplace and have it done professionally. This is not a job for a newbie. (No offence to any newbies here :) ), and this includes the programming. If you don't know what your doing with these radios, that is prime time to brick it / screw something up.

110 watt VHF Hi band 146-174 Spectra. It has the Encryption option, altho the board may not be there.

You will need the "High Power" DC cable AND the remote cable that goes from the left DB25 connector to the DB50 connector on the back of the control head housing. And of course the spkr and Mic.

The "Hi power" programming cable is listed here on BatLabs .http://batlabs.com/images/spechi.gif

Some more info here on Mike's wonderful collection of cable diagrams.

Yes, very important, have it recapped by a Pro.... Echo Comms, as mbnv992 did.
