• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a 1977 Bandit Trans AM - the real thing. I want to install a CB antenna similar to what was used in the Smokey and the Bandit Movie as a prop. I know the correct antenna was a AS MR 276, which is hard to come by. Or another option for a VERY close look alike is this set up which a fellow Pontiac forum member proposed"
IC20-B - Hustler 44" Roof/Deck Mount CB Antenna With Spring, and replace the coil with NOS Vintage Antenna Specialists K-46 Low Band Replacement Load Coil 30-36 MHz.

So my question is I really do not want to drill a hole in my roof to mount these CB antennas, and is there a MAGNETIC Base adaptor which can be used to interface with either of these selections? I do not care if it is functional, as it is for the "look" at car shows.

The A/S low band coil and a replacement whip can look just like what you are looking for. You can get the roof mount off eBay cheap and A/S did make a chrome magnet mount for those. I'll see if I can find one.

Any help? How do I mount the AS Low Band Coil to a Magnetic base? I am unfamiliar with the coil interface, and would it screw onto any magnetic base, held with a bolt, etc?. The link has a pic of the coil, and one of these pics show the bottom of the coil.

I always thought it was a mag mount to begin with just because of this scene where it falls off. I guess I never really paid much attention otherwise

They say the original was a MR276 non magnetic roof mount. And not available anymore, except on EBay with a ridiculous price.

If you get the period A/S magnet mount the antenna coil just screws onto it.
