If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good evening everyone, I am new to the HAM world and recently downloaded a CSV file from here to load onto my Baofeng UV-82 but as I open it a box opens and says "Unable to detect model" with a drop down list of radios. I proceed to select my radio model and when the file opens in a new tab, all channels read "000.00000" and say "ERROR" right next to them. Can anyone please help me?

PS- I am not too familiar with the technical jargon so please take it easy on me =D

Not much to go on, but my guess would be that the data in the csv file is not in the correct order for your radio. If your radio has any data in it currently, you could export that data to a different csv file and compare the two files to determine any differences.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried doing that last night. I downloaded the file from my radio, exported it to a CSV format and opened them both. I tried to paste the frequencies from the RR CSV into the one I downloaded off my radio but when I went to upload it into my radio it said "no channels found" or something like that.

Rather than trying to cut and paste, just compare the files and do what you must to make the RR csv file look like the radio csv file (similar data in same columns; columns in same order; etc. Be aware that even a small error could prevent the file from loading.
Otherwise, you could always enter the frequencies into Chirp the old-fashioned way - one at a time. You might actually learn more about your radio this way.

Thanks, I'm trying to use this radio as a scanner. I tried entering them one by one but for some reason I couldn't receive any transmissions. But when I manually enter the frequency using the radios keypad it plays without a problem. I'm trying to figure out what's different from the radio than when I input it into chirp.

I've used Chirp in the past, so let me know if you have any specific questions. To start... make sure that each channel is entered as carrier squelch (Tone Mode column to NONE). Don't assign any type of CTCSS or DCS squelch. Also, as a safety precaution, set the Duplex column to OFF to disable accidental transmissions.

Another thing you may want to try is to "import" the freqs via the CHIRP program itself.

Click Radio, then hover over Query data source, then hover over RepeaterBook and then click on RepeaterBook political query. Select the state, county and band you want to download from and click okay. You should then be good to go.
