The IC-208H is an analog dual band ham radio. It will not do any digital decoding nor any of the trunk tracking. It won't work for that system. And no ham radio I know of will.

It may be capable of 800MHz analog reception, but that is all. You could maybe program it up to receive the individual frequencies, then have it scan through those. But it would not be very satisfying IMO.

Programming instructions for 208 are in the radio's manual. If you didn't get the manual when you got the radio you can buy it from Icom. You may even be able to download it. The 208 is an analog FM radio and will not receive any digital radio transmissions.

Is that radio even capable of receiving 800 mhz? When it became illegal for radios to monitor cell phone freq's 870-894, some companies cut out that portion of the band, while other companies removed the entire 800 band. GARY N4KVE

I have an IC-208H and concur that it is not ".digital capable". Although I have never tried to listen outside the 2 meter ham band, VHF band (150-163 MHz) and 70 meter ham band, the ANALOG RECEIVE specs are listed as follows in the U.S. version:

RX Modes: AM, FM

118.000-173.995 MHz
230.000-549.995 MHz
810.000-999.990 MHz**

**Cell Freqs are Deleted
TX Mode: FM ONLY in 2 meter and 70 cm [440-450 MHz] bands only

Some foreign versions of the IC-208H vary from the above specs.

WOW. it certainly satisfies its advertising of wide range receive. I had a buddy with one, I doubt he knows he can receive the 800mhz single channel, analog PD where he lives.

Unfortuanetly, I really have to question if these posters are actually licensed radio operaters. The problem is that anyone can buy an amateur radio these days.

Good observation...one post to the group. Called the 208H a receiver. Bet he found it in a pawn shop, saw it did 800 mhz, and figured he could hear his local trunking system, so bought it on the spot.

The IC-208H will NOT follow a trunked system at 800 MHz. I will only tune a single (non-cell) frequency. It will not transmit (unless illegally modified) outside the amateur 2 meter and 70 cm bands. It does have a wide receive capability, but the the really excellent receive sensitivity is only valid on these two ham bands. On frequencies outside these bands, the sensitivity tends to drop off, more-so on some frequencies than others.

I own an IC-208H.

Robertmac and mass-man....

You are absolutely right, I am not a licensed amateur radio operator. However, I do not need a license to purchase an amateur radio nor do I need a license to use the amateur radio to receive only. I am in the process of learning and intend on taking the exam next month. I am actually really excited to be able to start transmitting next month. I apologize for the incorrect terminology, I meant "transceiver".

To everyone who responsed, with the exception of Robertmac and mass-man, thank you. To you two jack*ffs, thanks for the constructive comments.
