Help: Repeater Baofeng UV-5r setup

Hi.

Bought a cable from Baofeng for repeater use, and programmed with a +0.0600 offset (see attached pictures).

It works but it doesnt send before you talk or blow hard in the mic.
Not tested from a distance yet but some scratching.

Is there any settings on the radio i need to change?

No idea. Those frequencies are not amateur related and would require license. Not certain if that radio is approved for frequencies outside amateur bands.

Are you trying to program it to talk on a repeater or are you trying to make a repeater out of two radio with a repeater cable?

You have VOX (voice activated transmit) turned on. Turn it off. Should be menu 4.

And the UV-5R is Part 90 approved, so it's fine to use for business or ham.

Also, offset is a per-channel setting. And .06 is 60KHz which is totally wrong. Standard VHF offset is 0.600MHz, or 10X what you have set.

For UHF, the standard offset is 5MHz.

None of your channels have an offset programmed except #4 in your first screenshot.

FYI... If you are located in the USA, many of those frequencies are in a US government / military band. Transmitting on them could result in BIG fines.

You need to set the VOX sensitivity.
Start at one end and work your way
up (or down) and find the sweet spot

Im in Norway, the Jakt channels are standard hunting channels in here.
The others are for goverment use and approved for us.

I have to radios set up to transmit. Using a Baoefeng repeater cable.
Typing error there, its 0.5000 offset as the picture shows. Is that to low?

Is there any other settings than offset and vox related to repeater use like this, using two radios and a cable between?

Also, channel 4 is the only one inteded for repeater use.

If you are trying to use two Baofeng portable radios to make a repeater, you would not need to use the offset parameter at all. One radio needs to be set to transmit on the "out" frequency and the other needs to be set to receive on the "in" frequency. If your frequency use is flexible, use as much separation as you can between the TX and RX frequencies. Use of a standard 2m / 600 kHz offset will probably not work unless you are using a very high quality duplexer. I have no experience with any special settings required for the connecting or VOX operation.

I would caution you that most Baofeng receivers are very susceptible to broadband noise and strong off-frequency signals. This usually means that the transmitting radio will desense the receiving radio to some degree, seriously affecting receive range. If at all possible, use two separate external antennas or physically separate the radios as much as possible in order to provide maximum RF isolation.
