• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I want to use a left over Spectra that i'm not using for my online feed i currently provide on Scanamerica.us and over at Scannewengland. I'm using a scanner for the feed now but I want to use that mobile I have laying around because the RX and audio are day and night. However when I RX audio it seems to trip something in my computer and causes the sound card to stop working. I then unplug it and plug it back in and it works for a second and then same thing. This doesn't happen with audio comes from the scanner.

I had a radio tech tell me there may be some DC voltage coming from the radios speaker feed and that I need to add an audio transformer. Can anybody elaborate on this?

Thanks!

I forget the technical details for why but you do NOT want to directly wire anything but a standard Motorola speaker to the Spectras speaker output. Anything else must be isolated with an audio transformer.

Be thankful it didn't blow out the audio amp. It's a common problem.

Look on batlabs.com, and the bat board.

There's low level audio available on the accessory connector, but it's not squelched. Speaker audio is at least squelched, but you have to deal with the fact that the audio amp is dc coupled to the speaker. Like Wayne said, treat it badly and it WILL fail.

Someone on the bat board had come up with a circuit that would take speaker output, isolate it, and derive a COR output, all without modifying the radio. There's schematics, board layouts, and parts lists. Personally, that's not how I would approach the problem.

The better solution is to use the low level audio at the accessory connector, and modify the radio to bring out a COR signal, and squelch the audio externally. It's more work, but then you don't have the volume control messing with your streaming audio levels.
