Ive just about had it! I tried to program this thing w/ butel software, all that did was screw up my wifes windows enabled mac... Therefore im trying to manually program this thing. OK fine W/ UHF/VHF freqs, but for the life of me i cant figure out 800 meg.... I erased what i downloaded , and manually set up w/text tags the sys.8 from SBCO. Now i had a lot of VC channels w/ out text, so i tried to enter in my stuff. Un do the squlech, no static. thinking its the TGID? Dont know wher to find that have the CC entered, the manual writer should be horse whipped! Im at the end of my rope w/ this. I dont want to send it back to have it programmed, as i dont think it will come back the way i want it... Its proably something stupid im doing! Any ideas?

It seems easy enough. Just enter the 4 control channels per the 5 steps on page 29. If you run in OPEN mode you will hear all active talk groups. In CLOSED mode you will hear only the ones you have entered.
OK, got the control freqs, but i still cant get the talk groups to work,. What i would like to do is put fire on one bank, sheriff on another, etc. Thought i had it licked, even text tagged everything ,but cant seem to get it to work ARRRRRRGH..........

Make sure both the control channel frequencies and the bank is set to the correct trunking type.

You have to put the TGs in a scanlist 1-20 and then activate the scanlist you put them in.

You put the talk groups into SUB-BANKS. You can use one sub-bank for fire, one for sheriff, etc. Read all about it starting on page 64.

In the bank that you have the CC's programmed into, press MAN button, press FUNC, then TRUNK. This takes you to the sub-bands. They start at 0-0. This is the first sub-bank in Bank 0. You can enter a TGID in each of 30 slots. There can also be an alphatag. Follow what it says in the book. All have to have the mode type, usually MOT. Make sure the bank is in the correct mode, the frequencies are in the correct mode and the TGID's are also.

I'm the computer savvy person........It's hard going from a non-trunking scanner to a trunking one. Happened to me almost 13 years ago when I was layed up after surgery. Lost most of the hair on the top of my head trying to program a RS/Uniden Pro-90. No pc, just the manual and me in heated battle
Now, if I could get proficient with my 396, I'll be a happy man:lol:HTH,

Well gave it a try. Seems i may have been on the wrong mode. Now i programmed in some TGIDs, they work fine in man. mode, but when i put it on scan, no recive, even when squelch is off. good on man , but no scan action. The radio is now disp. the TGIDS, and the alpha tags, but only on man. and when it uses that CC. Any ideas. Thank you for your help... I think im slowy getting there. I also cleared ALL the radio, so im starting from scracth, but that is ok.

It sounds like you didn't program the CC frequencies in TRUNK mode, but in conventional mode. To reprogram the frequencies in TRUNK mode, go to the bank that the trunk system is in. Press MAN, press FUNC, then press TRUNK. This allows you to program the frequencies in the bank channels. Make sure that you use MOT for each frequency. This makes sure the bank is in trunk mode. Leave your TGID's in, or just leave it in OPEN mode and see what TGID's pop up. When you hear something interesting, press the ENT button. It will automatically save the TG.

Larry, can i buy you a beer, or something! You were right... but you mae it quite simple. I thank you SIR, scanner trunking like crazy, inputting all my freqs just fine w/ even the text tags... Now , it seems so simple.... guess i need someone whos been there done that.... Again, THANK YOU!!!!!!!
