An I-Call is basically two units in a private conversation that cannot be monitored by other users on the system. The PRO-96 and 2096 scanners will not receive or track I-Calls. The only way to receive an I-Call on a PRO-96 or 2096 would be to monitor it in conventional mode. The drawbacks are that you would have to know beforehand which frequency on the system the I-Call was taking place on, the scanner wouldn't track them if the conversation switched frequency, and no I-Call radio ID would be displayed. With these limitations it would be difficult to be sure what you were hearing was actually an I-Call and not just a regular group conversation on the trunked system.

396 will trunk the Icall. It has to be 800 system in your town just go in edit and go to that system file and go sys opt I think and go to Icall you can have Icall and 800 system going or you can just have Icall itself.

enter 70000 as a talkgroup number on a Uniden scanner. all I calls on /\/\ systems begin with a 7 and adding four zeros afterwards will make your scaner track any talk group on the system beginning with a seven.

If you turn on I-Calls, but do nothing else, you won't hear any in ID Scan mode unless you either enter a valid radio ID, or enter the I-Call Wildcard as suggested above. If you use ID Search mode, you would see radio ID's show up much like a talkgroup. Your display might show something like this: 704697-704642 ...this is the radio ID's of the units involved in the I-Call.

I dont beleive you need to use the 70000 talkgroup with the 396 and poss the other newer Unidens. Actually I just tried entering it to see and it tells me it is a bad talkgroup id. I think with the newer ones that monitor status bits there is no need to enter the 7000. But then I have been wrong in the past. Lol.

The 396 uses ".0" for the I call talkgroup id instead of 70000.

The period . is and i for EDACS I-Call entries (i00000)

Don't know about the 396/996 but for other Uniden scanners the generic number for Motorola I-Call is seven hundred thousand (700000) not 70000. Ken validates this with his display examples. EDACS is i00000. However, don't know why but entering i0 then E will enter i00000. With the Motorola, all 6 digits are required.

Is that . supposed to be in front of the zero when you program it?

Yes. On the 396 you would enter it as ".0"
I don't have a 996 so I don't know for a fact if it works the same way, but the 2 scanners are closely related so I imagine it works the same way

This was changed on the 396/996

Per the owners manual for the 396 the wildcard number for both Motorola and EDACS I-Calls is the same:

http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BCD396Tom.pdf

"Note: You can enter I-Calls by pressing . then the
I-Call number. You can enter the I-Call wild card by
pressing . then 0."
