I have a radio shack pro-62 scanner. I havent used it in awhile. I turn it on (fresh batteries) and it scans but is not picking anything up. I did a regular scan thru all freq and i get nothing. I switched antennas and doesnt change at all. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? Any help would be great.

I live near chicago illinois. Im just trying to get anything. Before when I used it it would pick up something. Now im not getting anything. All I get is static when i turn the squelch down. Which I know is normal. But I get nothing it just scans but picks nothing up. I tried the search option starting at 39.000 and it goes all the way to 960.000 and doesnt pick up anything. Not even tones.

Do you have any FRS walkie talkies? if so progam one of those channels into the scanner, transmit on the FRS, do you hear anything?

If you recieve that close then probably an antenna connection.

Ok. I tried romeoville and chicago weather freq and nothing. They should be going crazy with the winter weather warnings that we are getting here. Everything on scanner works fine just doesnt pick up anything. I even tried going outside and nothing. I tried two different antennas and doesnt help.

Does anyone know a trusted place I can send this scanner to have it looked at? Maybe a website or something. Only thing I can think of is that the problem is internal.

Boy - that's an oldie. Sorry - I was going to say try a different antenna, but you already tried 2. I think it's just time for a new radio (I like the oldies too sometimes...)

Yeah - I know, lol. I got a RadioShack Pro-82, Pro-97, Pro 2054 and some Professional Motorolas for Law Enforcement. My point is - they sell the Pro-82s for $99.99. It's a really durable radio (belive me - I take extra care of my radios, but this one got dropped in snow and mud (in the winter) - tossed in the air, and everything. Wouldn't you know - it still works to date just like when I first got it - clear reception, long range, etc...

If you are looking for a scanner (doesn't have 800 MHz frequencies or trunking) - get this - my RadioShack store still sells them, and you can get ehm on the website.

My next bet would be the Pro-97, it's $200, just save up your money and beg your wife it'll be the last radio, lol. I love it, it can be customized and everything.

Anyway, let us know what happens. As for the 62 - I think it's gotta go :( .

Be hearing from you.

common issues with the pro-62 that i have been finding is bad a osc crystal or a regulator eaten up by glue, they glue down some larger compontents and over a period of time the glue becomes conductive, the 62 is a good model and was made by gre for radio shack

73 and good luck
