• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone,

I am new to this board and pretty new to sophisticated radio use. I have a few questions and hope folks can point me in the right direction. :)

My main question is about the HIROSE connection used with SABER 1,2,3 radios & Push-to-Talk (PTT) cables.

Does anyone know where I can find hirose plugs fittings to create cables?

Or schematics on what the wiring of these cables needs to be? If there is a more proper name for the "hirose" adapter, please let me know.

I would be willing to pay for a professional to make cables for me if you know of a good wiring shop, et all...

I own a Peltor comtac II headset and a PTT cable made for a different radio & am trying to change the plug... or create a middle cable which will adapt to the Motorola.

I would also like to buy 1-4 Motorola Saber IIs or IIIs, UHF & securenet. If anyone is selling these radios that work, lemme know :) -Only astro & system radios if I can get the software as well, it's different than a normal saber, yes? Thanks!

Again I am a beginner, so go easy. (grin!)

Thanks a ton for any advise...

In South Carolina,
~Robin

Yes, the Astro Saber uses different software which is only available from Motorola.

Have you tried contacting Peltor to see if they make an adaptor for the Saber series?

Peltor does make headsets with the proper hirose plugs... my hope is to find someone who can re-wire a push-to-talk cable set from one radio (a military Harris plug) to a Motorola hirose. Essentially a custom re-wiring.... which I am willing to try myself :)

I realize the software should be bought from Motorola and am certainly willing to do this. Just wanted to be sure if I buy astros or System radios.. I am on the right track for their programming.

More advise>?

Cheers,
~Robin

I've purchased Hirose connnectors from www.markertek.com in the past. I'm not familiar with the particular style used on the Moto's, but if it is one of the smaller ones, I'd suggest not doing it yourself unless you've got a good steady soldering hand, the insides of the connectors get very small.

Also, you are going to need the pinouts for the connectors for both ends, so you know what to connect where, and then you may have to deal with impedance/signal level differences for audio, and possibly incompatible PTT signals.

I'm sure it can be done, it's just a matter of is it worth the hassle.
