• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Wondering if someone in the Motorola gadgetry field can assist me with time-specific, low-pitch error tones coming from our new XTL5000s.

After a period of non-transmission, the unit emits a constant pow-pitched error tone. To me the behavior is consistent with a 'timeout timer,' whereas if we do not key up the mic within a certain period of time (maybe 60min) it lets you know. The XTL5000 error & tone is resolved if I key up the mic.

My management staff contacted the installers, who in turn replied that the unit is overheating & they can add cooling fans.... I disagree.

I found in the manual a 'status call' feature. Curious if this is my problem.... and if so can it can be disabled?

Regards,
Mike

Sounds like a soft power off where the radio will shut off if there's no activity after a certain period.

Yeh I agree... just trying to to determine specifically what the feature is. Wondering if someone knows if the feature can be disabled... or are we just stuck with the inconvenience.

Yes it can be disabled and try using the help files within the CPS. They're actually very helpful.
Search on "soft power off" and you should find something.

You could actually complain to the company that programmed the radios, assuming the units are new and under warranty this is a condition that they need to fix, regardless of the cause.

Does the display show any errors when this is occurring? And you are positive the tone goes away if the only thing you do is PTT? No other input or button push? Is it really 60 minutes?

Thanks for checking in, and I agree with your comments. Unfortunately I am competing with Management also... I am in a position of recommendation only.

The 60min is a guess, but it seems reasonable. And it did it again today [POWERING OFF] was on the screen display... I let it turn off. Yes the cycle resets if I key the mic.

In the CPS:

Read radio:

Radio Wide: Advanced Tab: Ignition Switch:

Yours is set to 'Required' which is not a normal configuration.

This enables a drop down below it marked AUTO POWER OFF with a range set in hours with the range of (disabled) to (14).

Normal configuration for ignition switch settings is usually Soft Power Off (default),. which allows either usage with or without the ignition circuit depending upon installation parameters.

This is the ONLY parameter where timed power off is available.:)
