• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

ok check it out..................System here on RR sys Tac-06 (Fire)(Horry County) is 7428.

Now I am listening today and I see 07428 on my 2055 display , well I'm thinking now wait a minute I have that in my Trunking Id's , hmmmm so of course I break out my Win97 and check my info.....On Tac-06 it had 00000 , I go "huh?" .....ok so I put 7428 in , Win97 barks at me and says that is an invalid ID must be multiples of 16. Well question is.......I do in fact RX 7428 on the Horry System , sooooooooooooooooooooooo what gives?

Try 7424

They have to be in multiples of 16, unidens can display them differently as status bits, but the GRE ignore those and use the standard 16 spacing.

Edit, I think it may have been "fat fingered" when entered into the DB :D

7424 would be the actual TG - I don't think 7428 should be listed, but instead 7424 should be if anything.

logged TG = 7428
7428 / 16 = 464.25
actual TG = 464 * 16 = 7424

(logged TG - actual TG) = extra bits
7428 - 7424 = +4 (indicating that it was an emergency patch of some radio to the 7424 TG when normally that particular radio doesn't have access to TG 7424).

ID+0 Normal Talkgroup
ID+1 All Talkgroup
ID+2 Emergency
ID+3 Talkgroup patch to another
ID+4 Emergency Patch
ID+5 Emergency multi-group
ID+6 Not assigned
ID+7 Multi-select (initiated by dispatcher)
ID+8 DES Encryption talkgroup
ID+9 DES All Talkgroup
ID+10 DES Emergency
ID+11 DES Talkgroup patch
ID+12 DES Emergency Patch
ID+13 DES Emergency multi-group
ID+14 Not assigned
ID+15 Multi-select DES TG

This is why Talk Groups are in multiples of 16 - because numbers in between are different bits that are set to indicate different things.

My guess is that whomever submitted 7428 actually had Status Bit set in their scanner (so that it shows the patched talkgroup ID instead of the main talk group ID. If they would have seen that transmission and logged it with Status Bit = 0, then it would have displayed as 7424. Perhaps on RS scanners you can't select status bit on or off and it always displays the TGID including any extra bits.

I was just looking for that list to explain the 16 digit spacing :D

It's probably on the Wiki somewhere, but I couldn't find it quickly so I grabbed it from a text file on my desktop (which I probably originally got off the Wiki).

I rarely find anything on the wiki. Everytime I search, it's not found

I just made a text file for my USB drive, so I'll remember what they are for in the future :D

I _should_ do that - my desktop is cluttered with a million text documents, usually ambiguously named, with anything I want to keep. So I know its on my desktop, but that doesn't mean I'll find it quickly rofl. Having a USB drive that you can carry around from machine to machine is a good idea - I'll have to do that!

I "feel your pain" on the text files , not only that , not to mention .MEM , .SPG , .P97 , CSV and on and on and on.................Wish there was some program that converted ALL these formats....anyway back to the file clutter....simple but effective for me was to create a folder [Frequencies] and put them in folders....IE , .txt in [TEXT] ....... .mem in [MEM] , etc. and so on.

Oh yea also GREAT program for messing around with these files is UltraEdit......Magic is good for older stuff . with Ultra you can delete columns , spaces , etc. Comes in pretty handy.....most of these software packages that "claim" to import files don't work .

That's all fine and good, but if you don't know to type in 'Motorola Talkgroups' then you don't find it :) Next time I'm looking for some info I'll PM you so you can do the search for me heh.

Huh? You mean if you were looking for info on Status Bits for Motorola Talkgroups you wouldn't know to search for "Motorola Talkgroups? LOL um Ok...ne way, it also comes up by searching "Status Bits" And as also pointed out above in my post, you can also navigate to it very easily from the main page..But to blame the wiki as Grog did is stupid..That was my point which is why I quoted him and not you...

Hey cluster-nut, if someone knows they are called "status bits", then do they really need to search for them? (rolly eyes just so you feel friggin special too)

I didn't say I searched for "status bits" in the stupid wiki because the last 5 times I've searched in there, I found no results. I use google, and I can find anything I need.

Next time you want to make someone smile, jump in front of a bus :D

That's all fine and well..Just don't go posting that every time you search the wiki that nothing comes up like it's the wiki's fault..Which is how I took the post with the roll eyes icon...I am defending something that actually works if you use it correctly..And guess what..If it's not there, you have the ability to add it yourself..

Could the TG ID be 7248? I was hearing HC F/R trainning on it today.

Yes that's exactly what mine showed.......BUT you can't put that in Win 97 software because it's an INVALID ID. It's not a multiple of 16.

Try 7248. NOT 7428. I have that TG in and it works fine. I think 7248 is the real TG ID.
