Here's what I was tuning around and found today. Explanations in right hand column aren't necessarily correct (what do I know) - except the 6724.5 reference was identified by Peter on the Yahoo UDXF Group as Stanag 4481. I copied some of the WEFAX stuff - others might be mislabeled. I've yet to find an ALE broadcast - mainly because I have to tune manually since I forgot how to use the memories on the FT-100 rofl.

The subject says patience is needed - apparently I haven't exercised enough yet. Wow you gotta be diehard to learn to identify what you hear. Lots of stuff out there if you know what it is.

Needless to say I have only actually _copied_ weather faxes. Still trying to learn how to identify signals, their modes, their configs.

Stanag 4481 references based upon info given by Peter on the UDXF Yahoo Group. I thought they were 850 shift / 75 baud RTTY that I just wasn't decoding for some reason.

I have problems with ALE also. I will read in the same forum, guys tripping over them, everywhere. I've tried a couple of programs, without success, so I must be ALE challenged.

A comment from the other forum about RTTY applies here also, for the casual viewer to this site or non-member of UDFX. Halifax Canada AND only when Stations such as CPT in Lisbon Portugal, FUE in Brest France, PBB in Den Helder Netherlands; are testing their equipment or running CARBS, will you actually be able to read what is being sent. RTTY is fairly dead for news services.

I'm surprised you couldn't hear 4608.2(4610 USB) weather fax from London.

Have fun on the air...

I definitely haven't anything on 4608.2 or vicinity yet. In fact nothing on 4600x period.

Ok on the RTTY. That's too bad though. I've yet to find any mode I can copy besides CW or weather faxes. Lots of that RTTY-like 850 shift 300 baud stuff though.

I obviously need to actually pull the manual out for the FT100 and get common ALE frequencies programmed in so that I can check them with ease.

Maybe if I spend less time on the RTTY/like stuff and just pass over anything that sounds like RTTY I'll end up finding something more interesting/copyable. I'll try to do that :)

Don't feel bad. I just decoded my first RTTY last night. It had a booming signal on the 7 MHz band. Oh yeah. the call sign was W1AW. No wonder it was easy to copy. I think it is the only 75 baud left on the band.

P.S. using Skysweep with R75. I also have an FT100 but it is in the truck, I'd like to get another one for the house so I can leave the one in the truck. Haven't tried Skysweep with the FT100 yet.

You probably dont want to try using the FT-100 vs the R75. That FT-100 is a real PITA since everything you want to do requires 20 keystrokes - switching VFOs, turning various noise functions on and off, adjusting the steps (PITA because it is right next to that dial and real small button). I'd much rather have a true monitoring receiver.

Had I gotten the bug to monitor again a month ago (before I bought 1000 dollars worth of scanners), I'd be looking for a good HF receiver right now :)
